If you choose chocolate chips, also called chocolate chips, instead of semi-sweet baked squares, it’s easy to do so long as you keep a few caveats in mind. Semi-sweet chocolate chunks or chocolate chips are often cheaper than baking squares, so you might be tempted to substitute them in recipes.

Cocoa powder imparts a rich chocolate flavour to the recipe and darkens the final product significantly. It’s the most widely used secret weapon when you need a deep, rich chocolate flavour for baked goods like Devil’s Food Cake.

When using chocolate in place of cocoa powder, your best bet is unsweetened chocolate ($2, Target), since all other chocolates contain sugar and require a lot of tweaking to get them to work in your recipe.
