Dry ice is not recommended to be stored at home. But if you like to store dry ice at home, place the dry ice in an insulated cooler with a loosely closing lid. If the cooler is air-tight, the escaping carbon dioxide gas can cause the cooler to explode when opening.
A good way to store dry ice is in an unsealed insulated container such as a chest or refrigerator; the thicker the insulation, the better; store in a well-ventilated area. When storing dry ice at home, place it in an insulated container, such as ice, in a refrigerator, and be sure to store the refrigerator in a well-ventilated area.
You can’t store dry ice in a home freezer and keep it frozen because it must be -109.3 degrees Fahrenheit or -78.5 degrees Celsius, or it will evaporate as a gas.
Dry ice is extremely volatile, sublimes into non-toxic, tasteless, 1000 times the area of solid carbon dioxide, so dry ice cannot be stored in a well-sealed small volume box due to the risk of explosion. It should not be stored in an airtight container, as the sublimation of dry ice into carbon dioxide causes the container to expand and possibly explode.
When dry ice is produced in bulk, it is immediately placed in an insulated cooler to protect it from external heat, keep it frozen, and prevent sublimation just as quickly.

In other words, dry ice will sublimate (change from solid to gaseous state) at about 5-10 pounds per 24 hours when stored properly (i.e. in an insulating cooler…see below). Solid, highly compressed carbon dioxide becomes gaseous during sublimation and then expands to displace oxygen-containing air.
How is dry ice made?
Carbon dioxide is pressurized and cooled in a large metal mould to form a liquid, then frozen and cut into dry ice cubes or pellets of about -110 degrees Fahrenheit (remember, starting in third grade, water freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit, but the temperature depends on your refrigerator).
Where is dry ice used?
Dry ice is mostly used in the food industry to prevent spoilage during large-scale mixing or grinding processes such as burger making, where dry ice pellets are added directly to the grinding process to keep grinding temperatures below the bacterial growth temperature range, usually using liquid nitrogen for Too cold for these apps.
Little can be done to prevent sublimation; a cooler and paper will help, but without professional containers, there’s nothing in the house to keep the dry ice cold enough to stop sublimation.
It is important to have a full refrigerator when using dry ice, as the rate at which dry ice disappears depends on the amount of empty space in the refrigerator (it’s good to use closed, empty food containers to fill the empty space).
Some ice should be left in the refrigerator to keep the contents cold when you return home or to your destination. If more than 48 hours of refrigeration is required, manually filling a medium-sized 25-litre refrigerator with fresh ice may be necessary.

You should store ice in the refrigerator you bought it from and try to keep the environment as cool as possible. You can leave the fridge outside with the lid ajar, but make sure it doesn’t attract curious birds, animals, or other people who might touch it.
If you are driving a refrigerator in your car, be aware that it will release carbon dioxide, and there is a risk that the level could rise to unhealthy levels in a closed car. The pool can be dangerous for pets if you are transporting it in a car or if you have placed the refrigerator in a recess.
You can also wrap the dry ice in thick sheets of newspaper, cardboard, or cloth to keep it from coming into contact with food, drinks, or refrigerator walls.
Use a Styrofoam container due to its insulating properties and place it in a strong corrugated cardboard box. Use protective clothing, insulated containers with wide lids, crumpled paper for extra insulation, and a cool, well-ventilated storage area. Styrofoam drawers may not look as good as your YETI Tundra Haul fridge, but they are great for storing items that need to be insulated.
Freeze bread and other foods that don’t require refrigeration, and store them in the refrigerator without dry ice to keep food fresh and dry.

What is the shelf life of dry ice?
The temperature of dry ice is -78 degrees Celsius, so if you want the shelf life of dry ice to be longer, you must first have a low-temperature environment. Otherwise, it is difficult to guarantee the shelf life of dry ice. If you store your dry ice in a heavily insulated refrigerator, a pack of dry ice will easily last a few days. Just put a lot of ice in a transport vessel (usually a heavy-duty refrigerator), toss it in the car, and everything inside is easy enough for several days of travel.

Use towels, a paper bag, or a few layers of newspaper to cover the outside of the dry-ice block. Sublimation will be slowed down by insulating the block. As the air can cause sublimation after a while, add airspace in the cooler with the insulators.

The quantity of carbon dioxide gas brought in by dry ice in a freezer or refrigerator is inadequate to cause health-based issues. The food products can be kept in the refrigerator using those container groups and dry ice.
How Long Does Dry Ice Last?
Dry ice can last for 18-24 hours in a regular-sized styrofoam cooler with 1-2 dry ice blocks. Dry ice can stay up to three to four days in a bigger cooler. Just ensure there is no hole through which air or hot air can pass.
