How To Reheat Steamed Pudding In Oven & Microwave

You can reheat steamed pudding in the microwave or an oven. In the microwave, wrap the pudding in plastic with punctured holes. Place it in the microwave at half power for 10 to 15 mins. In an oven at 350 F, wrap the pudding in foil and heat it for 20 mins.

When you’re ready to serve the pudding, you’ll need to reheat the pudding by steaming it for 30-60 minutes or until hot, or you can also reheat it in a microwave-safe container to keep the moisture inside.

On Christmas Day, whether you steamed or microwaved the pudding ahead of time, you will need to reheat it in the microwave.

It should be possible to reheat the pudding in the microwave instead of steaming, and for the first steaming, we recommend increasing the cooking time to 5 hours.

Steaming time for pudding

We only have reheated slices (about a minute each), but for the whole pudding, you can try 3 minutes on high, 2 minutes rest, and then 1 or 2 minutes on high until the pudding is completely hot. The big pudding is steamed for 2 hours, and the small pudding is steamed for 1 hour.

Steps for steaming pudding

The method is the same:

  • Put it in a pot of boiling water.
  • Steam for 20 minutes
  • Pressure cook a small pudding for two hours and a large pudding or two small puddings for three hours

Ideally, when the pudding is ready, we recommend steaming it for 8 hours (the sum of the first and second steaming times), as steaming is important to the pudding’s flavour.

Reheat your Pudding using these Steps

When I pressure cook in an instant pot, I get about 6 mini puddings from one large amount of pudding and still give them an initial 15 minutes to steam but cut the cooking time down to 30 minutes on manual high power instead of 45 minutes for lots of pudding. pudding.

Remember that food doesn’t need to be reheated more than once, so if you have a large pudding but only serve one or two servings at a time, divide it into portions and use the microwave method to reheat it, or use my Instant Pot – Pour 250 ml in a bowl, inner pot, wrap portions in aluminium foil, place on a rack and leave for 5 minutes on manual high to heat fully.

Steaming for at least 20 minutes on Manual High, then NPR and leaving the pudding on ‘Keep Warm’ until needed is how I reheat my Christmas pudding in the Instant Pot.

Since the pudding is fully cooked, why not put it (in a vacuum bag) in a pot filled with hot water and leave it in the oven at around 65°C?

Again, time is not critical, so 40 minutes or 4 hours is not of great importance. If you have a slow cooker, you can heat it up for an hour, pour boiling water from the kettle, put the wrapped pudding inside, cover and cook for 10 hours.

If you have an electric slow cooker, heat it for an hour at maximum power, then place the pudding on a metal ring or cookie cutter and pour boiling water from the kettle until it reaches 1/3 capacity. Fill the slow cooker with enough hot water to reach the covered pudding bowl halfway up.

Steam on high power for 2-3 hours, depending on the recipe. Put the pan (form) in a double boiler, half filled with water, and cook the mixture for about 2.5-3 hours. Place the bowl of pudding in a pot of water, then cover it with a sheet of aluminium foil and cook for the same time at 160°C/140°C with vent/gas 3.

Bring the liquid from the boil to room temperature, cover the pudding with a couple of aluminium foil, then place it in a saucepan over boiling water and gently steam for at least an hour. You can ensure it cooks evenly by placing dessert in a steamer or with a saucer at the end.

Cover the pudding with an aluminium steam hood and cook for approximately 1 hour 30 minutes at 1 hour 45 minutes over medium heat (180°C/350°F/gas 4) or according to recipe instructions.

Add 1 inch of water to a deep skillet, cover and cook over medium heat until the pudding is firm about 2-1/4 hours.

How to prepare pudding with a kitchen towel?

To prepare the pudding in a kitchen towel, dip an 80 cm square piece of calico, place it in the oven, select Steam at 1000°C and set the cooking time to 3 minutes. To reheat in the oven, wrap the steamed pudding in aluminium foil and place it in the hot oven (turned off) while eating.

Once you’ve cooked and chilled the pudding, replace the foil with a piece of freshly buttered one to keep it moist and store it in a cool, dark place or in the refrigerator until you’re ready to reheat it for Christmas.

To reheat, unwrap the pudding, remove the cheesecloth, wrap it again in foil and cook on a wire rack over simmering water until hot, about 45 minutes.

Reheat by returning the cooked pudding to a pudding mould or similar heat-resistant container and return to the slow cooker. Reheat the pudding. Remove the pudding from storage and tie a ribbon around the edge of the foil to secure it (according to the cooking instructions), then place it in the slow cooker.

How to freeze pudding?

The easiest way is to cut the pudding into individual portions, wrap each piece in cling film, and then place the slices in a resealable bag before freezing them. Follow the same instructions and place the pudding in a zippered freezer bag to freeze it.

Whole puddings can be chilled inside a pudding bowl/plate and then stored with an intact or non-stick lid/cooking paper.

Use the same steaming process for the Christmas pudding, but be aware that this will take longer than the lighter biscuit pudding – the Christmas pudding takes about 2-5 hours to cook, depending on its size, while the smaller biscuit pudding size is usually ready in less than 2 hours.

Boil the water before mixing the Christmas pudding mixture; this will ensure that the Christmas pudding starts to evaporate immediately, which is important for baking powder and your time.

Slowly add the whipped cream and vanilla and continue beating until the whipped cream is light and fluffy about 3-5 minutes. Place a spoonful of hard sauce on each piece of hot steamed pudding.

Can You Reheat Pudding in a Microwave?

Yes, you can remove the pudding from the outer packaging and make small holes in the vacuum seal bag. Put it into your microwave. Reheat the pudding on medium heat for about 1 minute per 500 gms. This will heat the pudding without further cooking.

How do you steam a pudding without a steamer?

The pudding should be allowed to cool fully covered if steamed in advance. After the sponge is completely cold, cover it tightly with a double layer of cling film and keep it in the fridge, or a cool place, for up to 5 days.

Can You freeze steamed pudding?

Even though the pudding taste even better when eaten right after it’s cooked, you can still freeze your pudding to eat it later. To freeze it, just wrap it with foil before keeping it in the freezer, and should eat this pudding within 3 months.
