However, if you end up consuming sauce that has gone bad and is letting off an unpleasant odor, you can get food poisoning.

If left unopened, soy sauce can be stored for as long as you want, and even if it is opened, it can be stored for another two to three years if you screw on the lid and put it in the refrigerator. Soy sauce usually stays at room temperature for about six months; to keep it fresh longer, store it in the refrigerator.

When stored properly, an unopened can of tomato sauce will generally retain its best quality for about 18–24 months, although it is usually safe to use afterwards.

Typically, homemade tomato sauce will keep for three to five days; however, if it does not contain cream or cheese, you can easily freeze it in airtight litre containers. If the tomato sauce contains meat, consume it within 2-3 days of refrigeration, as meat spoils faster than tomato sauce.

Eating an expired sauce won’t make you sick, as long as the sauce isn’t spoiled, has mould inside, or the sauce bottle isn’t damaged. If you buy expired oyster sauce, it may contain harmful bacteria that can make you sick.

Store-bought sauces last longer because of their preservatives but don’t taste as good as homemade sauces. Store-bought yum yum paste lasts longer due to the added preservatives, but it doesn’t taste. Most commercial hot sauces today have a longer shelf life and contain other food preservatives to help them stay fresh longer.

It’s best to avoid eating past-date sauces, as this can affect their flavour. If you buy sauces online, you must check if the expiration date is correct. For example, if you bought a jar of Yum Yum sauce from a store, the expiration date was most likely on the label after the product had been on the shelf for several months.

Toppings usually have an expiration date or expiration date rather than an expiration date, which means that if stored properly, you can still use the soy sauce even after that date.

Another fact is that once a condiment or sauce is opened, the “best before” date expires. It also means that if you only need tartar every few months, you won’t lose half a bottle because you didn’t eat it before its expiration date.

If you can’t use an entire bottle of tartar before the expiration date, homemade tartar might be the solution. What I love about homemade tartar sauce recipes is that you can make them however you want. Either you think tartar sauce will go with just about any fish or seafood dish you cook, or you don’t even want it at home.

If you plan on making homemade pasta sauce, you can use old pasta sauce, but if you’re buying it ready-made, you can skip it. Homemade pasta sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for three to four days, while store-bought sauce can last up to four days.

Dairy-based pasta sauces such as carbonara, alfredo, cajun alfredo, pesto cream, white clams, and beer cheese sauces should be consumed within hours of preparation because dairy-based pasta sauces, such as carbonara, deteriorate quickly.

Wrap homemade pasta sauce in resealable airtight containers or filled freezer bags to keep it long enough. That’s not necessarily bad news – you can leave spaghetti sauce out for a few days, but it will lose its flavour after a week or two.

According to a Reddit AMA, the team lead said the sauce will last “for a few months” before you need to run it.

If you check a bottle of hot sauce from afar, smell it well, and see nothing wrong, it’s probably edible. While we don’t recommend eating anything past the “best before” date without looking for signs of spoilage, the “best before” date is no shelf life, and there’s a good chance your red bottle of chilli sauce is still fine.

Refrigeration of Boom Boom sauce may also be optional, but like soy sauce, if you don’t want to store it in the refrigerator, buy a small amount.

Keep it thicker if you want to use it as a dipping sauce. Once everything has been combined, chill the sauce for several hours to allow the flavours to blend. I’d suggest at least an hour, and preferably 24 hours. Delicious yum sauce keeps for up to 14 days in the refrigerator.
