How To Fry Paneer

To fry paneer, first cut the paneer in to cubes. Add ½ cup of oil and paneer cubes in a bowl and mix well. Now, heat some ghee in a pan and melt it. Once ghee is melted pour paneer cubes in it and stir fry it until golden brown. Remove from heat and serve.

What is really wonderful about paneer is it makes turning any dish vegan a breeze, just replace meat with paneer. Paneer is one thing that does not require any cooking, hence, most dishes that include it are quick to put together. Paneer is mild by itself, but they simply soak up flavours that you add to them, tasting different every time. Just paneer is fried in medium-high flames, which is why paneer turns pockmarked on the inside, crunchy on the outside.

If you feel your paneer is too tough after the fry, you can add paneer in a bowl of warm water after frying. You can either roast your paneer and add it to cold water to soften it, or you can soak paneer cubes in warm water directly rather than roasting it, and directly add it to the recipe once cooked. Now, you can fry, bake, or fry the paneer cubes in hot oil till they turn golden brown and add them to the vegetables. Now add paneer cubes and stir again gently till every cube is coated nicely using spoon or your hands.

Once the recipe is made, add paneer pieces or cubes into the mix or the gravy base. Before serving, simply heat on the stovetop or microwave it for one minute, and the paneer cubes will be softer and again turn to soft. Place paneer cubes in serving tray with few toothpicks and I can guarantee that it is done. After this, the paneer cubes are fried until they turn a nice brown colour, turning all over.

Drop the pieces in the bowl, add 1/2 tsp salt and pour in sufficient warm water to absorb the paneer cubes. You will want to stir the chopped paneer pieces in the marinade until the paneer is coated evenly and thoroughly. If you want, you can lightly fry or roast paneer till browned before adding in vegetables. Switch off the flames after cooking for 1 -2 minutes and garnish paneer fries with cilantro leaves. To paneer fry, heat the pan with oil and add onions, tomatoes, followed by spices, and paneer in oil.

Although I regularly order paneer at restaurants, I had never tried fried paneer before cooking the recipe for curry paneer from Madhur Jaffreys book, Vegetarian India. I tried the paneer tikka recipe for the first time at a local Indian takeout joint, topped with salad of sauteed onions and bell peppers, with spicy coriander dressing. We made half our paneer tikka kabobs with the Tandoori masala, the other half the traditional Garam masala.

While you will save tons of time when making paneer in an air fryer, you will not lose out on flavor when making paneer tikka in the air fryer. You do not have to deal with the ugly splatter from oil, and air-fryer paneer is faster than the traditional way to prepare tandoori paneer. To prepare air-fried tandoori paneer, do all steps for making the kabobs, making sure you marinate it for at least 30 minutes.

Off heat, in a large frying pan, add 2 teaspoons of ghee, jaggery, and the fresh and dried spices, excluding Garam Masala. Place the frying pan with the ghee, jaggery and spices on the stovetop and heat, stirring on medium-low, until the 2 tbsp ghee has melted and the spices are starting to soften and turn fragrant.

Now, add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1/4 tsp black pepper powder, 1/2 tsp red chili powder from Kashmir, 1/2 tsp cilantro powder, 1/2 tsp cumin powder, and 1/2 tsp garam masala powder. Take out the salt, ginger-garlic paste, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, and maize flour into the bowl. Add 2 tbsp of plain flour and 2 tbsp of rice or corn flour, followed by 1/2 teaspoon of red chilli powder, 1/2 teaspoon of cumin powder, 1/2 teaspoon of garam masala, and salt to taste.

To make Indian-style paneer stir-fry, heat oil in a wide, non-stick skillet, add the garlic paste and cook over low flame for few seconds. Deep-frying does not just yield wonderful results with a perfectly crispy texture, it also renders the inside of the paneer into a fluffier texture. With deep-frying, instead of making batter, coating paneer in flour works best because it gives a wonderful, perfect crunchy result without souring oil. How long does it take to fry paneer?

Ideally, it shouldn’t take you that long to fry paneer. Use a frying pan and heat it over medium-rare heat. Add 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil and then carefully add the paneer slices to the pan and fry for 3-4 minutes until the color changes to golden.

Does frying make paneer rubbery and chewy?

If you fry paneer in a frying pan or a skillet, ensure that you do not fry it for a more extended time. Ideally, you should fry your paneer slices for only 3-4 minutes until the color changes to golden-brown. Otherwise, your paneer will become rubbery and chewy in texture and taste.
