How to fix undercooked rice in a variety of different ways.

First, you must determine if the rice is ready, if water is left in the pot, or if the rice is not yet cooked. If this is your first time using a rice cooker, there should be instructions so you know how much water you will need for different amounts of cooked rice.

Place 2 cups of uncooked rice in a rice cooker, add some salt (about 1/2 teaspoon), and a measured amount of water. First, check the amount of liquid needed to cook the rice and add about that amount to the pot, but do not use water for this.

If your rice looks dry or the texture is still hard or crunchy when all the liquid has been absorbed, add up to 1/2 cup of water and simmer while it’s covered. If the rice seems a little al dente, you can drizzle some water with your hand and cover it with a lid. If you find it hard to chew or just not chewy and crunchy, depending on the amount of rice, add 1/2 to 3/2 cup water and cover the pots with a lid. If the rice is fully cooked and looks a bit crunchy, you can definitely try the rice in dishes like fried rice.

Add more water for brown rice to ensure it’s well-cooked (you can also use this mixture for short or medium-grain white rice). Cook the rice with your favourite cooking method, such as in the microwave or stovetop, and add more water if needed to ensure it’s well-cooked (you can also use this mixture for brown basmati). You can also reheat cold cooked rice in a regular frying pan, but be sure to pour a generous amount of water over it and stir as it heats up.

Leaving a cup of white rice for a couple of minutes after you’ve finished cooking will absorb some of the remaining water.

After rinsing, put the rice on a baking sheet and put it in the oven for about 8-10 minutes so that it dries out a little. Bring enough hot water to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover and cook until the rice is soft but firm enough to bite into, 15 to 20 minutes.

How to prevent the rice from sticking?

One way to prevent the rice from sticking is to rinse uncooked white or brown jasmine rice under cold running water until all lumps are gone before adding it to the pot. Another option after unintentionally boiling glutinous rice is to rinse it under running cold water to try and get rid of as much of the starch as possible. To fix this, transfer the rice to a microwave-safe bowl and cover it with plastic wrap or a microwave-safe lid.
