How To Cook Rice On Electrical Stove
Using an electric stove in cooking rice requires one to use a burner on high. This will bring the pot to a boil, but have another burner set on low so that you can easily transferthe pot to a lower temperature to simmer the rice. Tips for the perfect electric stove rice: Always rinse the rice and use the right amount of water.
To cook rice on an electrical stove, in a saucepan add water according to the quantity of rice. Once the water boils, add in the rice & cook for 15 minutes on low heat, covered. Once water is absorbed, turn the dial off and let the rice sit covered for 5 mins before fluffing.
I make jasmine rice using 1 cup washed rice and 2 cups water. I put the rice and cold water in a saucepan, bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer, covered, for about 10-12 minutes. If you want soft, fluffy rice, you need to add rice to cold water and bring to a boil. When the water boils, I add the rice and cook over medium heat until it boils again.
Once you have cold water and rice in the pot, cover and heat on the stove over high heat. Add rice and water to a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat. Place a pot of rice and water on the stove and turn on the heat. You then quickly reduce the heat, cover the kettle with a lid, and bring the rice and water to a boil, which essentially means just below boiling.

After adding the rice, the water temperature will drop significantly and stop boiling. The same amount of water is used for each boil, so subtract the amount of rice from the amount of water in the ideal starting batch. Measure out an equal amount of fresh water and pour into a saucepan (add a little more water for brown rice). If your rice is too soft, that’s bad because you have to start over and reduce the amount of water.
If the rice is getting soggy, it probably means you overcooked it in too much water. If you use too much water, the grains will soften, while too little water will cause the rice to harden again, causing the rice to stick to the bottom of the pan. Some sources recommend adding the rice to the boiling water, but I’ve found that cooking the rice this way makes the rice hard and crispy and takes longer to cook. If you find your rice is too dry and a little hard, you can add more water and let the rice warm for 5-10 minutes.

When used correctly, the rice cooker should not stick to the pot and leave no water at the bottom of the pot when cooking. Another way to keep the rice from sticking together is to keep stirring it as it cooks. To prevent the rice from sticking to the pan, try a nonstick pan. For the traditional stovetop method, place the rice in a saucepan and bring the water to a boil.
Once the rice/water comes to a boil, put an aluminum lid on top and weigh it with a medium sized skillet or skillet (not cast iron). When the rice starts to boil and you can see the rice right under the water, cover the pot with a kitchen towel and put the lid on the pot. When the water boils, cover the pot with an airtight lid and reduce the heat to low. If you still see water bubbling down there, put the rice back in place and close the lid for another 5 minutes.
Once you have brought the water to a boil and seasoned it with salt and possibly more oil, add the rice and let the water return to its place. Let the water boil again (otherwise you risk boiling the water before your rice becomes tender). After everyone has tasted your fluffy, perfectly cooked rice, fill the rice cooker with water and set it aside while you wash other dishes. When the rice is ready, remove the pot from the heat and let it stand covered for 5-10 minutes so that the rice absorbs the steam and the bottom of the pot becomes softer.
When cooking rice on the stove, be sure to use a heavy-bottomed pot (don’t use cheap aluminum cookware, please), and make sure the pot is large enough to allow the rice to expand to four times its original volume. You can easily double or even triple the recipe; just make sure to use a pot large enough to hold the rice as it cooks and puffs up. Add the grains to a large pan, or spread them out on top of the pan and drizzle with a little liquid (water or stock, about 2 tablespoons per cup of rice).
If I use about 2 cups of water to cook 1 cup of white rice, I need a kettle that can cook at least 6 cups. When in doubt, when cooking rice on the stovetop, a good rule of thumb is to add a cup and a half of water for every cup of rice. You can use these instructions to make long grain brown rice, but when cooking brown rice, you will need to increase the amount of water by 1/4 cup and cook for 45 minutes.
All I have to do is add rice and water to my Instant Pot, press the Rice button and I have perfect rice in about 25-30 minutes. To check if the rice is ready, take a piece of rice and take a bite of it. Just drain the rice in a colander and let it drain until the water runs clear. After cleaning the rice and removing the cloudy water, add 2 cups of filtered water to the rice cooker pot.

Rinse lightly, shake, then drain rice 1 or 2 times with cold water to remove excess starch from broken grains or other debris. Giving the rice some time in clean water also removes surface starch because this can cause the rice to stick together or give it a chewy texture (via The Kitchn). Pouring already boiling water over the rice helps control the exact amount of water you add, which is important with basmati and jasmine rice because they are starchy and can become chewy. Then open the lid, use a rice paddle to scrape the rice a little before serving.

When the water of rice starts to boil, just add a small amount of oil, such as vegetable oil, which helps prevent the rice from sticking to each other while cooking on an electric stove. The oil will submerge with the rice once the cooking starts.
Why is my Rice Sticky and Mushy?
The presence of starch might have made it sticky in texture. This could have happened if a lot of liquid had been soaked up by the rice initially. This rice can still be used for another dish. A single cup of white rice will be prepared for a duration of 17 minutes, and if the quantity is increased, it might take a little bit longer. If the rice is left in a concealed state with the help of a top cover for a little time following the softening of the grains, it will completely soak up all the water, and the resulting cushiony texture can be confirmed with a fork.
