How To Cook Raw Peanuts Without The Shell?
To cook raw peanuts without the shell, first, rinse the peanuts under cold water and then spread them out on a baking sheet. Roast them in a preheated oven at 350°F for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown, shaking the pan occasionally. They can also be boiled in a pot of salted water for 1-2 hours or until tender. Another way to cook them is to dry roast them in a pan on medium heat, stirring frequently until golden brown.
People typically eat these outdoors, where you can throw away the shells and not worry about squirting salty water all over. If you want to enjoy peanut butter, but you do not want to eat their shells, you can purchase unshelled, roasted peanuts. Raw, dried nuts from their Shells are, however, easily accessible, and they are cheaper to buy, peanut by peanut, than the Shelled variety.

Soaking your peanuts is essential as the peanut shells break off in boiling process if they are not soaked, the meat of the nuts becomes tough. Once you boil shelled peanuts to your desired consistency, strain out any remaining water and use the peanuts as you wish. Soak shelled peanuts in enough water and leave for at least 4 hours.
Simmer — Bring to the boil and let it simmer for 2-8 hours, depending on if using green peanuts or raw. Reduce heat to medium-low and let mixture simmer for 2-3 hours, until peanuts are softened.
Then, strain out any cold water, and place the raw peanuts in a pot filled with just enough water to cover. The next day, drain off water and fill cooking vessels with just enough fresh water to fully cover peanuts.
If using an ordinary pan, occasionally check water levels and add additional boiling water as needed. You can always add a bit more water in crock pots, then close the lid and pressure cook (again) for another 5-8 minutes. Boil 1 hour in crockpot or Instant Pot on High pressure, or 3-4 hours in pot with cover on Medium.
If you do not have Instant Pots, you can prepare the peanuts straight up in the cooker or in a conventional pressure cooker. You will rinse and sort your raw peanuts, and add them to an insert pan of your instant pot, along with a little coarse sea salt (I typically use this brand from Morton). The raw shelled peanuts can be boiled or roasted in the pan or the oven for a joey.
Roasted in a pan, tossed in some salt as it warms, roasting peanuts quickly becomes a favourite. Roasted peanuts seasoned with salt are sold as street food by the truckload, and are used in making other roadside treats. Add vinegar to enhance the flavors: Much like adding spices and aromatics, adding vinegar to the cooked peanuts provides an additional layer of flavour. Be mindful with how much sea salt you end up adding – We already salted our water when boiling our peanuts, so you only need very little added salt to a boiled peanut chaat recipe.
Pop those yummy Southern-style cooked peanuts into your mouth, siphon the flavors, bit through the shells to get rid of the peanuts, and spit the shells out. The outer shell is a little softer, so you will break it open, leaving the peanuts in there softer, not crunchy.
The peanuts might not look crunchy the first time you take them out of the microwave, but they will after cooling to room temperature. Continue checking on the nuts to see if they are still pale, or they look darker and have been roasted.
The biggest issue is the timing, as you will have to roast those that are in their shells for a bit longer than those that are already hulled. Peanuts that have their shells on need to have their shells on them for about 20-25 minutes, or until their shells are browned or pale brown. The peanuts that are hulled only need to be roasted for 15-20 minutes or until the peanuts peppery skin comes off and starts developing golden color. If peanuts are still uncooked after 30 minutes, cook peanuts for 10 more minutes and let them release the natural pressure.
After boiling the peanuts for 3 hours (1 hour for green peanuts), taste them for consistency and saltiness. If you only have green peanuts — ones that are not dried out — then you will want to cook them in the cooker instead. Use Raw Peanuts vs. Green Peanuts: There is a continuing debate amongst the peanut-boiling cognoscenti over whether it is okay to use anything but green peanuts to make the boil. Green peanuts have higher moisture content, thus they require less cooking time to achieve that desirable baked stage of a soft potato.

No worries, you can still easily boil raw, shelled peanuts — just be ready to put in a little extra time and a little extra water as the cooking goes on. The traditional way of making cooked peanuts requires you to soak peanuts in a brine solution for long periods to get that softness.
Boiled peanuts do not change in shape when cooked, the beans simply become a little larger due to the absorption of the water. I strongly suggest to soak peanuts at least for couple hours to make the cooking easier and quicker, though this is not required, but recommended. Cooking raw peanuts is super easy in the Instant Pot thanks to Pressure Cooking. Often, I love to have a few cooked peanuts with my chai, but only had canned, bought shelled raw peanuts in the house, but no worries, I could do that in my Instant Pot.
