## How Much Does A Yellow Onion Weigh?

All onions have almost the same weight range regardless of whether they are yellow, red or white in color. Thus approximately a large, yellow onion would weight seven to eight ounces (at least 225 grams), a medium-sized yellow onion would weigh six ounces (150 grams), and a small-sized yellow onion would weigh four ounces (125 grams).

Next time a recipe calls for one cup of chopped onions, you will be more confident knowing how many of each kind you will need.

Recipes often call for one small, medium, or large onion with no guidance on the number of cups of chopped onions that those sizes should produce.
