When stored in an airtight container, cannabutter can last in the fridge for 2 to 3 weeks. Cannabutter should be stored in the fridge as soon as possible after it is made. You can also store it in the freezer for later use. However, cannabutter last in the freezer for up to 6 months.

How long cannabis butter will keep in your freezer depends on how tightly packed it is, and how cold your freezer is. Just be sure to slowly thaw the cannabutter in your refrigerator or place your freezer-safe container in hot water before using. If you are keeping your cannabis butter stored in a container, be sure to seal it properly so that there is less exposure to humidity, light, and heat. Make sure to store your butter in an opaque, airtight container, as unneeded exposure to light is not ideal for the cannabutter.

This way, you will be able to only take as much butter as you need, with any leftover cannabis butter staying safely frozen. This way, you can get smaller doses when needed, and still have the remainder of your butter stored safely. For longer freezer storage, you can also pour your butter into smaller ice-cube trays, wrap it with parchment paper, then place it into plastic bags.

Cannabutter will also last longer if you keep it airtight–you want to keep condensation from taking a toll on your butter while the butter is frozen. Do not leave cannabutter inside your freezer too long, as the water may turn into ice, causing the container to break, making it harder to remove water from your cannabutter. When your newly made cannabutter is at 70F (20C), it is safe to keep inside your freezer.

As with non-infused foods, the cold temperatures in the freezer will keep your cannabis butter from degrading chemically, keeping it fresh and not losing its potency over a period of months. The low temperatures in the freezer will stop the degradation of the chemicals components of your cannabutter.

If you want to quickly defrost your cannabutter, you can immerse it in cold water (in a tight-sealed plastic bag). Just make sure you warm up your cannabutter first to melt it down and to facilitate mixing it in with your other ingredients.

Because the Cannabutter is quite strong, substitute just a little bit of Cannabutter until you know your tolerance levels. That is why it is best to blend ordinary, non-infused butter into your cannabutter until you learn how much you can tolerate.

It does not matter whether your cannabutter is purchased from the store or made from scratch, you will always end up having more than what is needed for your particular recipe. Fortunately, you can make the most out of every last spoonful of homemade cannabis butter, preparing and storing it correctly. If you made a large batch, or you do not use homemade cannabutter as much, you can even keep it frozen up to six months.

In the event you manage not to consume the entire batch of cannabis oil within a couple days, it is generally okay to keep it in an airtight container for several weeks. Once it is infused, pot butter lasts just a couple weeks in the refrigerator; I would not feel confident using it to cook or eating it past a month. When kept normally, out of the sun and any humidity, butter will last for around 4 weeks. In short, if stored properly and in a sanitary way, butter will last about 6 months.

If a lot of butter is stored properly, protected from sun, etc., then it may last up to 6 months. If you plan on using only 1 cup of butter every so often, then keep it frozen, if not, keep in the fridge for 2 weeks. The butter will be solidified on the top of the water the next day, and you can lift it up with a spoon to place it into your new pot. Wrap your butter in waxed paper first, then store your butter in a non-transparent container and place in the freezer.

Then, you can put the butter into a plastic bag and keep it in a freezer. Keeping your butter in an ice tray and freezing it is another way to keep your butter for a longer period of time than normal. When defrosting the formerly frozen butter, put the butter into a freezer, and then after refrigerated cannabis oil is no longer frozen, heat on a counter until room temperature. You can do the thawing process either by placing the cannabutter in the fridge overnight, or submerging it into a bowl of warm water for approximately 30 minutes.

If you would like to use some of your stored cannabis butter to create edibles, gently chip a piece of it with a dry knife or spoon. To make cannabis oil on a stovetop, turn on a medium-high heat, and place butter, your weed, and water into the pot, starting slowly with the stirring. Do not cook your cannabis butter over 350degF (176degF), by that time, any THC, CBD, or other cannabinoids in the butter would have evaporated. Freezing cannabis does not reduce its effects, and it may prolong the shelf life of your cannabis oil for six months.

You can always add some cannabis-infused butter in place of conventional butter in recipes to lessen the potency of the latter. However, once butter is prepared, it cannot be strengthened further.

Does homemade cannabutter expire?

I would not feel safe cooking with or eating pot butter after a month of it infusing; once it soaks in, pot butter lasts only a few weeks in the fridge. You should be able to keep the pot butter from going bad for up to six months if you store it in something airtight and place it in the freezer.

Is cannabutter supposed to be brown?

I believe you can make brown cannabutter in just about thirty minutes from the point of decarboxylation to the end of infused butter; this is divided into 20 to 25 minutes for the decarboxylation process as well as 6 to 8 minutes for browning (then it’s ready to be strained and stored in the fridge).
