If your treats are not wrapped, or if you are looking to store several, it is worthwhile to place them into an airtight container first, which will help keep them free from any microbes, like meat, that might get into your refrigerator. The shelf life will not get extended by much, and you still need to stick with the expiration dates, but if you happen to allow your treats to get slightly melty, sticking them in the freezer helps.

For best results, wrap the treats with wax paper to prevent them from sticking in your bag or container. Layer their favorite snacks between pieces of wax paper inside a sealed Tupperware container.
You can also wrap bars individually in foil or wax paper, and then store in either freezer-safe Ziplock bags or vacuum sealed plastic. The ultimate method of storage involves applying that same freezer wrap to individual treats, and then using a vacuum sealing machine to preserve the snacks.
Alternatively, you could put some slices of white sandwich bread into the containers with Rice Krispies cereal, seal the lid, and let the treats soak up some of the breads moisture. Wrap cereal treats in tin foil or Glad Press n Seal, or wax paper, and place them in a sealed container or zipper-lock bag, and store for up to 3 months.
Rice Krispies will remain crunchy and fresh when stored at room temperature in an airtight container or zip-top bag, up to one week, if using salted butter, which is our recommendation. Salted butter stays fresh up to one week when kept at room temperature, which allows your treats to keep fresh for a lot longer than they would if you used unsalted butter. We love buttery, softer treats, which is why we use more butter in our recipes compared to most of the other recipes.

Storing Rice Crispies is super simple since it simply needs to be kept somewhere dry and dark, such as your cabinet or pantry, and away from any heat or humidity. Beyond that, it is really important that you keep them away from any sources of heat because the butter and marshmallows can melt, making the whole thing much messier when you get around to eating them. If you have to hasten things and crank up the heat to medium to high, your marshmallows temperature is going to be way too high, basically turning the sugars in your marshmallows to solid candy, thus making for some tougher Rice Krispies.
Keeping the finished Rice Krispie treats in there at low temperatures will force your treats through a warm-cool-warm cycle, which actually makes them soggy. Chocolate is one ingredient that stays nice if stored at room temperature, and therefore, keeping your chocolate-dipped Rice Krispies treats at room temperature would be okay. Marshmallows will last for two to four months at room temperature, but you can extend their shelf life another month by placing them in cold storage. Dark chocolate will keep up to two years, while milk chocolate only lasts one year in cold storage. Try to use your stash in one month or less as the cereal will often develop an odd texture if kept too long. At that point, you can add in some other toppings, such as chocolate chips, or M&Ms (allow the rice Krispies to cool a minute or two before adding these, so they will not melt right away).
If you keep stirring, you will break up most of the plain rice Krispies and they will become dense as you press it into the baking dish. After it is past its shelf life, cereal bars will become sticky, solid messes, and they are hard to remove from wrappers too. After 6 weeks, Rice Crispies are basically going to become tough, otherwise, you are going to end up with expired Rice Crispies.
