If your treats are not wrapped, or if you are looking to store several, it is worthwhile to place them into an airtight container first, which will help keep them free from any microbes, like meat, that might get into your refrigerator. The shelf life will not get extended by much, and you still need to stick with the expiration dates, but if you happen to allow your treats to get slightly melty, sticking them in the freezer helps.

Rice Krispies will remain crunchy and fresh when stored at room temperature in an airtight container or zip-top bag, up to one week, if using salted butter, which is our recommendation. Storing Rice Crispies is super simple since it simply needs to be kept somewhere dry and dark, such as your cabinet or pantry, and away from any heat or humidity. Dark chocolate will keep up to two years, while milk chocolate only lasts one year in cold storage. Try to use your stash in one month or less as the cereal will often develop an odd texture if kept too long. At that point, you can add in some other toppings, such as chocolate chips, or M&Ms (allow the rice Krispies to cool a minute or two before adding these, so they will not melt right away).

If you keep stirring, you will break up most of the plain rice Krispies and they will become dense as you press it into the baking dish.
