However, once opened, UHT almond milk and other almond milk (sold refrigerated) should be used within 7-10 days and should not be left out of the refrigerator for more than two hours. This is stable almond milk that can be stored at room temperature until stable almond milk opens, you have seven to 10 days to drink it after opening (assuming the opened container is kept refrigerated). If your almond milk comes from an unrefrigerated portion at room temperature, it is likely shelf-stable and can be stored this way at home until opened. If you take a container of almond milk out of your grocery store refrigerator, it’s not stable, so it can go bad within a few weeks even if it’s unopened. Homemade almond milk and supermarket chilled milk should be refrigerated from when you bring it home to when it is sold, whether the package is opened or not.
If an open package of almond milk stored in the refrigerator or on a shelf has not been used for a long time, it will go bad. Especially if you’re dealing with an open box of chilled food or a jug of homemade milk, it’s worth considering recycling. Even if you haven’t opened the box, a swollen package always means the milk can no longer be used. An opened box should be refrigerated, and most brands state that milk should be consumed within 7-10 days of opening.
If you notice an unpleasant smell in milk during use, remove it immediately. If you notice this, you should throw away the entire milk container. If you accidentally leave milk overnight, it’s best to throw it out. If your milk shows any of the 6 signs above, you should throw it away immediately.
For best results, place milk on the inner shelf, not the door shelf. Experts recommend storing fresh, unsealed, self-stabilizing milk in the back of the refrigerator, where the temperature is colder and more stable than the door, where the temperature fluctuates. When milk is stored inside the refrigerator door, it is more susceptible to temperature fluctuations, which shorten its shelf life. If you store milk in the refrigerator, the ideal temperature range is between 38°F (3°C) and 40°F (4°C).

As I mentioned, stable milk can be stored up to 3 weeks after the expiration date if properly stored. Long-life Silk products do not need to be refrigerated until opened, they will stay fresh until the date printed on the package. Chilled almonds have an expiration date and cannot be used after the recommended date. An unopened package of cold, purchased almond milk will stay fresh for about a week after the date printed on the product, provided it has been stored at a constant temperature of 40 degrees Fahrenheit or below.
Once opened, store-bought refrigerated almond milk can only last 7 to 10 days, so be sure to finish it within 10 days maximum. Freezing almond milk can help extend its shelf life, but it is not recommended as thawing changes the composition and nutritional value of the milk. Because refrigeration of milk tends to extend its shelf life, many feel it makes sense to freeze the drink to keep it good even longer. Leaving milk in the refrigerator at room temperature risks spoiling it at an impressive rate.
It is not safe to leave pasteurized milk unrefrigerated for a long time. According to the US Food and Drug Administration, chilled foods, including milk, should never be left out of the refrigerator at room temperature for more than two hours. For some brands, milk may still be usable up to ten days after opening the package, but check for signs of spoilage before drinking. You should always make sure you have drunk your broth by the time the milk is fresh. If one day everything is in order with the package, and the next day it is swollen, then you can be 99.99% sure that the milk has gone bad.
However, this time interval is indicative: milk can still be drunk completely after seven days. Sometimes non-dairy milk is safe to drink within a day or two after the “best before” date on the package.
It makes sense to squeeze whole milk or skimmed almond or coconut milk. This means that cow’s milk is much more likely to gain weight than almond milk.
As you can see from the table above, unsweetened almond milk provides significant amounts of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, vitamin A, and vitamin D. Almond milk is absolutely healthy in the absence of saturated and trans fats and cholesterol. There is no need to read the fine print on the package to determine if almond milk is stable, as this type of almond milk will be sold with similar products such as stabilized chicken stock and canned soup.
If you can express the almond milk into a separate airtight container, that’s even better, as you can prevent any bacteria lurking in your refrigerator from getting into the almond milk. Opened containers should be tightly sealed and refrigerated to keep the milk from spoiling.
If you’re low on fridge space, opt for milk packs that don’t spoil when left in the pantry for a few days.
