A sandwich can last in the fridge for more than 5 days if kept in an airtight container. How long a sandwich should be kept also depends on the components of the sandwich. Fresh sandwiches should be kept in the refrigerator within two hours of cooking.

The chicken and cheese sandwich will keep in the refrigerator for about 3-5 days. A sandwich placed in the refrigerator can usually be kept for 3 to 5 days depending on the ingredients it is made of and how old it was before being placed in the refrigerator. When it comes to meat for sandwiches, if the meat is already on the sandwich, you can expect it to last 3 to 5 days. While the sandwich is in the refrigerator, it can be eaten the next day.

The 2/4 hour rule means that if the sandwich has not been used for 2 hours or less, it can be refrigerated and stored for later use. In most cases, you’ll want to store sandwiches in the refrigerator because you can leave most sandwiches alone at room temperature for no more than two hours before bacteria start to form.

Since they do not contain any perishable ingredients, the length of time you can go without using them is more a matter of quality than safety; these sandwiches usually keep well for about a day at room temperature. Generally, relatively high temperature sandwiches can only be stored out of direct sunlight for two hours if they are at room temperature or above 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

A sandwich based on salami or with cooked foods such as egg salad, tuna, or chopped vegetables such as lettuce or tomatoes will keep for about 2 hours at room temperature.

According to food safety regulations (at least in Illinois), sandwiches should only be stored at room temperature for 4 hours. To defrost frozen sandwiches, remove them from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. Stick on only meat, cheese and lettuce/spinach and some mayonnaise. Tuna sandwiches can be stored in the refrigerator for about 3-5 days, but be careful not to soften over time.

In fact, mayonnaise on a sandwich doesn’t affect how long it can stay safe to eat out of the fridge. If you store your sandwich in an airtight container or ziplock bag, it will stay cool for a while, but it will still collect moisture from condensation. To properly store sandwiches, the bread must remain moist and soft.
