Is Dr Pepper Bad For You?
Dr Pepper contains several ingredients that can prove harmful to your health. The sugar, caffeine, and high-fructose corn syrup present in the drink can cause tooth decay, rapid weight gain, diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. However, these are extreme case scenarios — you should be alright if you are healthy and don’t drink excessively.
Dr. Pepper, originally from Waco, Texas in 1885, contains ingredients that cause a number of serious health complications. In addition, many of Dr Pepper’s ingredients have been linked to various harmful health effects such as cancer.
Like most carbonated beverages, Dr. Pepper’s ingredients contain a number of additives, including sodium benzoate, sodium phosphate, and phosphoric acid. Dr. Pepper’s other ingredients are flavorings, caffeine and coloring, and no traces of animal elements. In addition to being sweetened with brown sugar, Dr Pepper contains caffeine from coffee beans and caramel coloring. Another Dr. Pepper ingredient is caramel color, which is common in other brands of soda.

Diet Dr Pepper contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, which has been linked in studies to an increased risk of cancer, heart disease, obesity, and other problems. Several observational studies have shown that consumption of artificial sweeteners and high intake of diet sodas are associated with an increased risk of obesity and metabolic syndrome (7, 8, 9, 10). Studies have shown that drinking diet sodas with artificial sweeteners can lead to increased appetite and weight gain.
According to the American Kidney Foundation, a recent study shows that drinking two or more diet sodas or regular sodas every day can increase your risk of chronic kidney disease. An observational study found that diet soda drinkers had a slightly higher risk of kidney stones, but that risk was much lower than the risk associated with drinking regular soda. Numerous studies have found a link between drinking too many diet sodas and serious diseases, including diabetes, fatty liver, dementia, heart disease, and stroke. Numerous studies have investigated the cause, and there is no evidence to suggest a link between regular soda consumption and high blood pressure.
A recent study shows an association between high intake of diet drinks and increased belly fat in older adults. There have been dozens of studies that have examined the relationship between carbonated drink consumption and weight, and the consistent finding is that the more carbonated drinks you drink, the more likely you are to consume more calories from other sources. A Norwegian study of 60,761 pregnant women found that drinking artificially sweetened beverages was associated with an 11% increased risk of preterm birth (41).
As a full-time physician specializing in general prevention and public health, I want to be able to educate my patients about the real risks and benefits of drinking diet soda instead of water. As the debate on the pros and cons of no-calorie sweeteners continues, we should consider doing these cell and brain studies with a pinch of salt (or sugar), since many diet soda drinkers — or anyone health-conscious — – Consume zero sugar. Calorie sweeteners – already have risk factors for obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure or heart disease. Recent medical research suggests that politicians seeking a tax on carbonated beverages may also want to include diet drinks, as these sweeteners also contribute to chronic diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
Health problems associated with excessive consumption of Dr. Pepper, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and kidney stones, are risk factors for underlying chronic kidney disease. Additionally, drinking Dr Pepper can cause headaches, heartburn, indigestion, and stomach pain. Dr. Pepper is no exception, as its main ingredients (HFCS, caffeine, aspartame, phosphoric acid) do more harm than good for short- and long-term health problems.
Coca Cola contains 34 mg of caffeine; while in Dr. Pepper contains 41 mg of caffeine. Peppers contain more or less the same ingredients as Coke, but Hanns notes that each contains 10 extra calories and two extra grams of carbs (sugar).
The original Dr Pepper contains 40 grams of sugar per 12 ounce serving. With the exception of the Diet and Zero Sugar formulas, a 12-ounce can of Dr Pepper will give you a 150-calorie boost, which again is not much different from similar carbonated drinks. A 12 fl oz can of classic Dr Pepper soda contains 40 g of sugar, while a 20 fl oz bottle contains 64 g.

Today, Dr. Pepper contains caffeine, caramel color, artificial flavors, natural flavors, preservatives, potassium benzoate, sodium benzoate, and sucralose.
Diet and lack of sugar Dr Pepper’s main artificial sweetener, aspartame, has also been linked to a number of long-term health problems, such as liver and kidney problems, oxidative stress in blood cells, slowing the immune system, and even carcinogenic properties.
Is Dr. Pepper bad for the body?
The main effect of drinking Dr. Pepper on the human body is weight gain. The major cause of obesity is the excessive intake of sugar which is present in sodas. The other calories present in Dr. Pepper filled you up just like food. The sweetened soda results in causing obesity which in turn results in various health problems.
Is Dr Pepper bad for your teeth?
It is not good for the teeth at all. The sweetness within the soda mixes with the bacterial micro-organisms in the mouth, and this leads to the formation of a harmful acidic substance that break the teeth down. The diet variety is not favorable either. Even though the sweet elements may be absent in the diet varieties, they still have acids that can be harmful for the teeth.

A single can or bottle of regular or diet Dr.Pepper can damage the healthy body. If a single or multiple cans are ingested on a daily basis, they can elevate the chances of Syndrome X by 36 percent, and the chances of insulin-resistant diabetes rise up to 67 percent.
