Dairy butter can easily be used as an alternative to cooking spray for any recipe. Use softened butter to grease the pans if used for baking. Or, if using on a stovetop to cook, add about 1 tablespoon of butter to the pan.

One thing to keep in mind when using butter as a substitute for cooking spray is to use it in a way that applies as thinly as possible. If a recipe calls for spattering and cooking temperatures are above this threshold, butter is not the best choice because it will burn.

However, there are sprays without additives – I like this spray with sunflower oil – and I find it a bit difficult to spread oil or butter on a pan with a paper towel.
