Can Garlic Powder Be Used As An Alternative To Garlic
Garlic powder can be substituted for fresh raw garlic cloves. Fresh raw garlic is very potent and is bursting with flavor. Whereas garlic powder is less potent, you’ll need to add more than the required fresh garlic. For every garlic clove, use 1 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder.
If your recipe calls for garlic powder and you’re on the go or prefer to use fresh garlic, you can replace 8 fresh garlic cloves with a teaspoon of garlic powder. If you don’t have one or the other…. you can usually substitute garlic powder for fresh garlic cloves or vice versa if you use the appropriate conversion factor. Don’t worry, you can replace the garlic with any form of fresh cloves as long as you have the right proportions.
When replacing raw cloves in recipes with powdered or granulated garlic, use the above conversion factors only as a general rule. When substituting, you should use fresh chopped medium-sized garlic for every 1/8 teaspoon. If a recipe calls for a teaspoon of garlic granules, use 1/2 teaspoon of garlic juice instead.
Substitute 1/8 teaspoon of powder for each clove of garlic required in the recipe. If you’re using garlic flakes (dried minced garlic) instead, replace each clove with a heaping teaspoon of flaked flakes. Garlic flakes are dehydrated garlic slices; the same as what the powder version consists of, but there is no grinding phase.
These dried garlic cloves are formed into garlic flakes, which are then crushed to produce granules and a fine powder. The same goes for dried garlic in sliced, granulated, or powdered form. Garlic granules are dried garlic that has been cooked, dried and coarsely ground in a spice grinder.
Use dried chopped garlic in coarse herb mixtures, which produce larger grains, but use granulated garlic in finely blended spice mixtures. If you have chopped or granulated dried garlic, use only one teaspoon per clove as the pieces are smaller. If you choose to dehydrate your garlic, you will need to granulate it to get the equivalent of 1 teaspoon. Then you will need to chop the garlic as finely as possible.
You will need to peel the garlic first and then chop the hardest part. While it can be tricky, be sure to chop the raw garlic into small pieces before adding it to your dish. Now that your fresh garlic is dry enough, you can grind it into a fine powder using a food processor or a mortar and pestle.

If you can’t worry about the hassle of fresh garlic, you can still use the powdered version. You can still use ground garlic salt in place of fresh chopped garlic, but you will need to adjust the total amount of salt required by the recipe. Remember that garlic salt made with granulated garlic rather than garlic powder will be more textured, so add the seasoning slowly so you can make adjustments to your recipe as needed.
You can add more garlic salt, but be careful to increase the proportions, as the dish will quickly oversalt. If your recipe calls for salt, you can easily make up for the hefty dose of sodium by eliminating 3/4 teaspoon of pure salt. You should cut down on the amount of salt as the garlic salt will also give your recipe a spicy flavor.
Keep in mind that garlic powder is more tender than minced garlic, so the flavor may vary slightly. You can control the flavor of the garlic depending on how strong it needs to be without making the dish too salty. The intensity of garlic flavor can vary from clove to clove, depending on the type, size, age, or freshness of the garlic, among other factors. Whether you buy whole garlic bulbs and mince them yourself, or buy pre-cut jars, the flavor and aroma will be stronger than garlic powder.
A little tip if you like the taste of fresh garlic and want to use it often in cooking is to peel, chop and mince a batch of garlic. Two cloves of garlic should give you the equivalent of 2-3 tablespoons of garlic. To replace garlic powder with minced garlic, the conversion is that half a teaspoon of minced garlic in a jar is equal to eight teaspoons of garlic powder because both measures are equal to one clove of garlic. While powdered garlic can be used in place of fresh minced garlic, fresh garlic in any other form such as minced, minced, flaked, potted, etc. is always a better substitute for minced garlic than garlic, garlic powder or garlic salt. If you are replacing garlic powder with fresh (or sliced) chopped onion instead of garlic powder, mix 3 tablespoons of water and 3 tablespoons of flour before adding it to your recipe.

You can substitute garlic with garlic powder or garlic flakes, and it will be good to mimic the flavor. Other than that, you can use Chives, Shallot, and a pinch of Cumin. They are actually a relative of the garlic plant family.
Can You Substitute Garlic Salt For Garlic Powder?
It is not good to use garlic salt and garlic powder in place of the other. The big difference lies in adding the salt when using garlic salt and garlic powder. If you happen to substitute garlic salt for garlic powder, you will end up having a meal that is too salty.
