Can You Substitute Apple Cider Vinegar For Lemon Juice

If you are going to substitute Apple Cider Vinegar for Lemon Juice, you need to adjust the ratio in which you are adding it. If lemon is a major component of the dish, like in lemon cheesecake, then you should not be using apple cider vinegar as the substitute because it will have a totally different flavor than it is supposed to. In general, you should be able to substitute 1/8th of teaspoon citric acid plus one tablespoon water for each tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in your recipes, however, in my experience, the acidity of commercial citric acid varies widely depending on brand, so I would suggest you play around with it a little. For the best substitutes for cider vinegar, pick one that is comparable to your vinegar both in taste and in its acetic acid content (as much as you can). Use malt or white vinegar, or opt for vinegar with 4 percent acetic acid or greater, for pickle options.

As mentioned earlier, you are encouraged to add a little fresh citrus juice, which gives the white vinegar some fruity flavour. Keep in mind, because of its deep red colour, this vinegar can change the look and feel of your dishes.

Champagne vinegar is similar to rice vinegar if you compare the flavor and the color, and you can also use it in place of rice vinegar for almost any dish. White wine vinegar is more complex than lemon, which is why white wine vinegar is commonly used in elaborate recipes such as lasagna, French cooking, and foods that have sauces.

Note that balsamic vinegar is dark, so you may want to use this if you are okay with the darkest color in your recipes. Note that Balsamic vinegar has a sweet flavor, so make sure you start out using less Balsamic vinegar and adjust according to your tastes. Fortunately, Champagne vinegar actually gives you just as much acidity as apple cider vinegar, so once again, you may want to opt for adding a splash of either lemon juice or orange juice into your dishes to offset any loss in fruity flavour. Lemon juice is another common ingredient used in many recipes, but it does not offer the same benefits that Apple Cider Vinegar ACV does.
