Can You Steam Pasta?

You can definitely steam pasta, instead of boiling it, as it is easier and doesn’t change the spaghetti’s taste at all. The results of steaming pasta will be quite delicious but it should be kept in mind to use fresh pasta as it won’t absorb as much water as normal pasta due to not being as hard or dried out.

Cover the pot with hot water and cover the dough with a lid, shallow pan, or aluminum foil to block steam and heat. After the water boils and you add the pasta to the water, you must remove the lid to keep the water from overflowing. The pasta will soften in the water and you can stick the ends into the pot.

Just dilute a little tomato sauce with water, bring to a boil, add the dry pasta and cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, to keep the pasta from sticking to the bottom of the pan, until it reaches a al dente consistency. Dry pasta will take about 15 minutes to cook, and you will need to stir the pasta and sauce frequently to prevent the pasta from sticking to the bottom of the pan.

After about 8 minutes of cooking, carefully remove a piece or string of pasta from the large pasta and let it cool. If you steam the noodles, the pasta will cook unevenly and even puff up in places because it’s all dry flour mixture. Because fresh pasta is made with eggs, if you don’t put it in boiling water, it won’t set properly, causing it to get soggy, or worse, fall apart during cooking.
