If you want to freeze spaghetti sauce in glass jars, you can. But to do that safely, you need air pockets to develop. When storing fresh homemade spaghetti sauce in glass jars, you need to make sure that about 1 to 2 inches of space are left for the sauce to expand while freezing.

You can freeze spaghetti sauce in glass jars if the glass is strong, if there is at least 1/2 inch space in the top of the glass for the sauce to expand, and if the lid closes tightly. Glass jars with straight sides, wide necks, and not too tight are best for freezing foods like spaghetti sauce.

If you bought a large jar of pasta sauce, you can use a freezer bag or airtight container to divide it into smaller, meal-sized portions.

If you’ve used a pasta sauce freezer bag, place the bag in a deep plate or small bowl. You can use freezer bags, just make sure to label, seal, and freeze on a tray so they hold their shape. BPA-free plastic containers, resealable plastic freezer bags, or freezer-proof glass jars are ideal for freezing sauces.

If possible, freeze glass jars on the door of the upright freezer or on the top of the freezer. You can freeze the liquid in a glass jar and store it in the refrigerator for several months.
