Can You Freeze Focaccia

You can freeze focaccia. Focaccia is a type of flatbread and is usually made with olive oil, onions, and herbs. You can freeze focaccia by wrapping it in foil or plastic wrap. Be sure to label the focaccia so you know when it was frozen. Frozen focaccia will keep for up to two months.

If you made your own flatbread dough, you can chill it prior to baking it if you would like. Once the focaccia has finished baking, take it out of the oven, allow to cool, then freeze according to instructions. If you are planning on freezing your focaccia in advance, simply do a quick pre-bake before placing it into the freezer.

To properly store your flatbread in the freezer, wait until it is at room temperature, then slice into pieces. Once baked (assuming your focaccia is homemade), decide whether you would like to cut it, and then wrap well before placing in the freezer. If your Focaccia is frozen, then best is to allow it to defrost and sit at room temperature before placing in the oven. To store the focaccia bread in the fridge, tightly wrap it in plastic wrap and put in a sealed bag.

To ensure that bread stays as fresh as possible, storing it in a Ziploc bag or wrapped in plastic wrap is recommended. Wrap the bread nicely in plastic wrap, and then put in a big freezer-safe bag, and store in the fridge for 4-6 weeks. Wrap the frozen focaccia pieces in plastic wrap, put in a freezer bag, and if needed, store for up to two months. Wrap dough in plastic wrap or place it in a freezer bag with as much air as possible to store your focaccias in the fridge.

Learn to make focaccia bread

Plastic wrap and a freezer bag are all you will need to keep bread slices cool in the freezer up to one month. If you are not keen on freezing your focaccia, you can just store it in your cabinet or bread bin, just as you would with your other bread products. A freezer-safe bag is sufficient for a short-term freeze, but if you anticipate that your focaccia will sit in the freezer for longer than a couple weeks, then consider wrapping it first in plastic wrap. Focaccia is best frozen on the day you purchase it or bake it, but you can freeze focaccia that is two to three days old as long as it is stored airtight.

How do you store and thaw focaccia?

Just like the other types of focaccia, you can freeze gluten-free flatbreads as well, which will last in the freezer for about three months. You can freeze any remaining flatbread, then heat the thawed slices in the toaster oven or in the 350F oven, until warm. To heat, preheat the oven to 350degF 175, and roast the focaccias for 15-20 minutes, or until heated through. You can either use leftover heat from having just baked the focaccia, or switch the oven to the lowest setting.

Thaw dough rounds at room temperature in their wrappers, and to heat bread, warm it in the oven to 350 degrees F. for about 5 minutes before serving. About 30 minutes before baking, preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Remove plastic wrap and spread remaining olive oil on bread rounds.

Allow to rest for one minute (see notes) and mix in the bread flour & salt with a wooden spoon until dough is just coming together. Make the baked focaccia by mixing water with the flour, adding it 6-12 minutes before baking.

You can make the dough up to 2 days ahead and keep it in the fridge until you are ready to bake your focaccia. It is important to note that if you are making your focaccia dough ahead of time, you will want to let it sit at room temperature for about 1 hour before rolling. Place your dough onto a lined baking sheet and chill unwrapped for one or two hours.

Sprinkle some water over the top of the flatbread to help rehydrate it, then bake for 6-8 minutes, or until hot through and crisp. The bread will keep for up to two days, and you can reheat by heating in a microwave oven or oven. Place it into the oven and roast for 30-40 minutes, or until your focaccia is browned and crispy on the outside, and sounds hollow when tapped.

You can serve your focaccia hot, by letting the contents of your container thaw, then baking for 10 minutes or longer. To thaw frozen focaccia, remove it from the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. To reheat, simply allow the thawed flatbread to thaw in the fridge overnight, then bake the flatbread according to recipe instructions.

The focaccia can be heated in an oven set at 350 degrees F, placing on a sheet pan (if frozen, first thaw the flatbread on a countertop). At the very least, place our focaccia on a baking sheet in a preheated 375-degree oven, and that is what should come back to it if frozen (unless you need to refrigerate first). If you would like to heat up your focaccia, you can pop it into an oven set at 350 degrees F for about 10 minutes. To heat the frozen bread, put it into the preheated oven at 350 degrees F, 180 degrees C, until it is heated through, about 10 minutes.

Give the focaccia plenty of time to air out and cool down before wrapping to prevent destroying your tasty Italian bread. If you think you are not going to consume the entire loaf of focaccia in one sitting, consider cutting it into slices before freezing.

Wrap your flatbreads in a clean tea towel when they are thawing: The tea towel absorbs moisture and prevents the bread from becoming soggy. Leaving your focaccia wrapped is important as this helps ensure that any moisture is reabsorbed into the bread and not lost into the air.
