Can You Eat Frozen Peas
You can eat frozen peas, they are very nutritious. Frozen peas contain vitamins and minerals such as calcium, zinc, potassium, iron, magnesium, and biotin. Frozen peas are best for kids as they can easily chew them. Frozen peas are easy to serve and are really healthy.
Okay, I admit, I am completely guilty of opening up a bag of frozen peas, throwing them in a pan of boiling water 5 minutes before dinner, and serving it up as a side. Because while you might consider frozen peas to be more of an emergency ingredient – either for a last-minute soup or for some kind of thumping on your head variety – they really do make a great starter for some truly delicious snacks. Frozen peas are briefly steamed prior to freezing, so they are ready to go right away — you just need to heat them up really fast to keep that little springiness and vibrant color intact.
Frozen peas, and really any frozen vegetables, are packaged as ready-to-cook foods, not ready-to-eat. Unless labelled ready to eat (as is the case with many frozen fruit products), frozen vegetables are uncooked foods, unsafe for consumption without cooking first. Frozen vegetables generally can be considered relatively safe, but should be cooked to avoid them containing bacteria which can be killed only if properly cooked.
This is because food poisoning can occur due to the bacteria that may be growing in the food, even if it is frozen. Vegetables that are not cooked correctly may contain harmful bacteria that could cause food poisoning.
If you consume frozen foods that are allowed to thaw, you can suffer from some negative effects, such as diarrhea and vomiting. The most common way of getting food poisoning from frozen vegetables is by eating it after it has been thawed. Frozen vegetables are generally LIMP when they are thawed; they can turn into gooey mess after days in the fridge, and once you have cooked them, they can very well become gooey. If you want to make sure you are not getting sick from your frozen veggies, you should be cooking them at a temperature above 75 degrees Celsius in order to kill the listeria bacteria, says Rachelle Williams, president of the Food Safety Information Council.

If you eat frozen peas and sweetcorns only every so often, your body may just be unaccustomed to digesting them, leading to bloating and other uncomfortable symptoms. While eating 1 or 2 frozen peas is totally fine, eating too much of them this way could cause stomach pain, which is why we do not recommend this. Whilst eating 1 or 2 of these tiny peas frozen is perfectly safe, eating an excessive amount may cause a tummy ache, so this is a no-go for you.

Most bacteria at the surface are destroyed in our stomachs, but for safety, you will want to prepare your frozen peas beforehand. Avoiding this is because, when vegetables are frozen, any bacteria on the peas prior to freezing, stays in the freezer; cold does not kill bacteria, it keeps them. Frozen peas will turn to goo if they are not defrosted prior to microwaving, as they will be pooled with the remaining water. Other websites suggest freezing the frozen peas under running water and adding it to any dishes that you are making, not baking.
There are a few exceptions, and some groups of people should avoid eating frozen peas uncooked. Eating frozen peas may pose risks to people older than 70 years of age or younger than 5. Fresh peas are perishable, so they must be eaten within one to two days after they are harvested.
To avoid becoming starchy and gummy, fresh peas must be used within 3-4 days of being harvested, in order to prevent spoilage. Store-bought fresh peas will generally be firmer and more starchy between when they are picked and when you buy them. If you are buying vegetables at a store that does not carry fresh peas, you will want to look at the shelf life of the bag.
If fresh peas are left in the freezer for a long period of time, they will get slimy and will lose their flavor. Peas get starchy and mealy when they grow larger, or when they are not cooked rapidly after being picked. The truth is, peas are beans, but since they are picked so young, they are delicate and sugary right off the plant.
Some people might like the flavor and texture of raw peas, whereas others might find them to be too crisp or flat. Garden peas are sweet, and can be eaten raw or cooked; they are common peas sold shelled and frozen. My garden knows fresh peas out of their pods are all-around great, but nothing else competes with eating these. The pod is solid and rounded, and you have to scoop out, or shell, the round peas inside before eating them (the pod is discardable).

There is no difference in the nutritional profile of all varieties of peas. The glycemic load of peas is estimated to be only 3. Their saturated fat and cholesterol content is low. If you’re concerned about frozen fruit and vegetables losing nutrients, remember that fresh fruit and vegetables also lose them.
