Can You Eat Frozen Fruit Straight From The Freezer
Frozen fruit is healthy to use for eating right after taking it from the freezer because the harmful bacteria cannot grow at a freezing temperature. One thing you should keep in mind is that before freezing, cut the fruit and put it in an air-free bag to minimize the frosty ice formation on it.
The American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) makes clear that frozen fruit is safe to eat right out of the bag, without washing. Frozen food manufacturers are highly vigilant about making sure fruits are processed and packaged safely, preventing contamination. Frozen fruit can safely thaw in your fridge, a sealed bag in running water, or the microwave, as long as you are using it right away, according to the National Center for Home Food Preservation.
It is safe to eat thawed fruit, but it will last a shorter period than fully thawed fruit. If you cannot eat all the fruit that has been defrosted within a couple days, you can keep it in the refrigerator, but make sure you use it up before it goes bad. Yes, it is safe to eat frozen raspberries, and using them directly from the freezer works especially well in smoothies and porridges. You can enjoy iced raspberries as a snack, having dipped them into a little chocolate or maple syrup. If you are planning on eating berries whole or using as garnish, defrost them for four to six hours, so that they are still partly frozen and solid. Frozen fruits work well in these parfaits, as they will soften up in the refrigerator, creating a delicious berry sauce that gets mixed in all over the parfait.
Eat the frozen fruit while still frozen (so refreshing), cover with chocolate, or throw in a blender, where texture does not matter. If too much of the fruit has thawed, you can thaw it again (if safely thawed), but the texture will still be soft by the time you are using it. In a small pot, just heat up your frozen fruit with sweetener (sugar, honey, maple, agave, or anything else you are comfortable with), a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, a dash of salt, and a spritz of water until it is reduced down to a silky-smooth, almost jammy texture.
