Can You Eat Boiled Eggs That Float
Floating biloed eggs are safe to consume though they may not be as fresh as a sinking egg would be. As the egg ages, air accunulates inside it whihc makes it denser and thus it floats on water when boiled. But it is perfectrly okay to have them.
The outsides of cooked eggs are solid and white, but the insides may be softer or harder, or anywhere between, depending on your preferences, or the way you are going to consume them. Unfortunately, eggs are not the easiest ingredients to tell how fresh they are, because their protective, opaque shell conceals the state of their whites and yolks. This is my favorite way of making better boiled eggs, and the easiest, since there is nothing to be added to the cold water that helps to facilitate the removal of the shell, and this works every single time. Just before you whip up that cheese-y scramble using an egg that looks pretty good, you will want to look at both the yolk and egg white after you break it open on a flat surface. The white of the egg has shrunk a bit, too, so that there is more space for air to develop between the shell and the membrane, which results in cooked eggs that are easier to peel. For perfect peeling, use eggs that are seven to 10 days old.
