Can Sriracha Expire?

Sriracha rarely goes bad, it can last way past the expiration date listed on the bottle. The hot sauce is made of fairly resilient ingredients which don’t allow bacteria to build up. Store sriracha in a cool and dry place and ensure you keep the lid shut.

If an unopened bottle of sriracha is opened and refrigerated, the sauce has a good chance of keeping for up to 24 months. Properly stored, an unopened bottle of Sriracha will last approximately 24 months after the stated date. Once opened and cooled, sriracha has a shelf life of more than 2 years. An unopened bottle of sriracha stored in the pantry will last approximately 2 years after the stated date.

If an unopened sriracha is in the pantry, it can be used for another 2 years after the expiration date. You can also store it in the refrigerator to keep it fresh longer. You can store unopened sriracha at normal room temperature in a cupboard or pantry.

While many people don’t use sriracha very often, there’s always room in the refrigerator for a bottle of this sauce. If you’re like me, buy 4-5 large bottles per meal each year. Even if you’re someone who rarely uses commercial sauces but still likes to use them as a topping at dinner, buying a bottle of sriracha will be very affordable.

Sriracha paste that has been eaten for too long is not recommended for use, whether it has been opened or not, it does not matter if it has been stored in the refrigerator or pantry. Store sriracha paste in a dry place at room temperature away from heat (which can destroy sriracha) or direct sunlight. Keep an open bottle of sriracha in a cool pantry or kitchen cabinet.

Although sriracha sauce does not need to be refrigerated, storing sriracha in the refrigerator will help keep its flavor and color even longer, especially after opening. If you buy an alternative Sriracha mix that mixes with other sauces, it may need to be refrigerated. You never know when you’ll want to add sriracha to your food so you can take it out of the freezer early and let the sauce thaw. Homemade sriracha should keep in the refrigerator for four to six months. Homemade sriracha, due to the lack of preservatives, can be stored for 4-6 months due to the content of vinegar in it, which has natural preservative properties. With the original combination of chili and sriracha vinegar, unopened sriracha has a shelf life of 24 months after the date on the label. If the sauce is stored in the pantry, it has a shelf life of approximately nine months, all of which depend on how it is stored.

Sriracha may lose quality over time, but you can help keep Sriracha fresh for at least nine months after opening by storing it in a cool, dark place in its original packaging. Cold perfectly protects against bacteria, so a delicious sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for much longer – up to 2 years. If the original sriracha bottle is damaged, transfer it to another jar or bottle that you can seal tightly so that the flavor and richness of the sauce does not deteriorate.
