Can Chapstick Go Bad?

Lip balms stay in good condition for a period of 8 to 12 months, after which they deteriorate due to the oils and fats found in the natural oils and creams used to make homemade lip balms for girls.
Because lip balms contain oils, they tend to go rancid after 12 months, which you’ll likely notice due to their bad smell once they expire. Almost all lip products on the market should be used within one year of opening for best results. Any lip product is only recommended to be used within one year of opening. For a boost, experts recommend throwing away lip gloss or other lip makeup no earlier than six months after opening and using it, or before the expiration date, whichever comes first.
Depending on how often you use your lip balm, you can use the entire product within a few months, or you can leave the lip balm on the counter for three years or more. Liquid conditioners will last for at least 6 months, although the scent of essential oils may fade over time. Although Chapstick is loaded with preservatives like vitamin E, which help slow down the product’s oxidation and prolong its lifespan, after a year of use, your lip balm can start to smell bad. Look for mildew, musty odors, and changes in the texture of your lip balm to see if it’s over its expiration date. If mold, odor, or texture changes appear, it’s time to discard your lip balm.

While it comes to safety, there’s usually a little risk to your health when using an expired lip balm, and most of the time, you won’t know the product has gone out of date. Wearing it may feel weird, but it is unlikely to produce any significant reactions.
