You should not replace a toaster oven to a microwave, the 2 appliances have a similar appearance, but they do different things. A toaster oven can replace a microwave, but what you gain in food quality, you lose in convenience. The difference in energy consumption between a toaster oven and a microwave is also negligible.

When it comes to specifying a true difference between microwaves and toaster ovens, this is a challenge because there are specific cases in which you cannot use one or the other appliance. In fact, both the microwave and the toaster oven can be used for heating and cooking foods; however, the results that you will receive using one or the other of the devices are considerably different. You may encounter limitations when using them professionally, as the temperatures in both a toaster oven and a microwave oven are not quite as high as those in a conventional convection oven.

On the plus side, microwaves are capable of rapidly heating liquids like tea, something that a toaster cannot. Conventional ovens are best for baking multiple items at a time, or cooking larger portions of one meal. While the toaster oven is an ideal, user-friendly choice for baking, the microwave oven can be used for almost everything, including bread, pizza, cakes, and more, as long as you have the proper recipes handy. You do have some temperature preferences when it comes to the microwaves (mostly the Low-heat option or High-heat), but chances are very high that your meal will be drained no matter how you bake your food. Microwaves cook food by emitted low-energy microwaves, which force polar molecules in food (water, fat) to spin around at a speed determined by the frequency of the microwaves themselves.

Investing in a convection oven allows you to bake, bake, broil, crisp, and toast, as it has a convection mode which goes along with its microwave mode.
