Eggs are not considered meat. But eggs have the same level of protein in it. Non-fertilized eggs have never been alive. As long as the egg is not fertilized there is no baby chicken, so there is no animal in it. There is no animal flesh in an egg so it is not considered meat.

All foods made with seafood; meat, poultry, and eggs; beans, peas, and lentils; and nuts, seeds, and soy products are in the protein food group. Within the different categories of meat, poultry, fish, and eggs, various categories of meat are classified as animal products. Meat, poultry, fish, dried beans, eggs, and nuts are all significant sources of protein, iron, zinc, and B vitamins. Eggs may have an important role in the vegetarian diet because they provide high-quality protein, vitamin B12, iron, and omega-3s, nutrients which may be lower in the vegetarian eating pattern.

Eggs are recommended as part of a healthy eating pattern which also includes an adequate quantity of wholegrain breads and cereals, fruits, vegetables, legumes, low-fat dairy products and unsaturated fats. Eggs can be enjoyed as part of a healthy, balanced diet, but they are best cooked without added salt or fat. I would never take eggs out of my diet, although they are not meat, they are one of the most nutritionally dense foods that you can get for the price. You could use the fact that they are not meat and not dairy to justify your love for eggsy dishes, or just decide they taste terrible and would rather not eat them if you could. While eggs have been the mainstay of most breakfasts our whole lives, there are a lot of people who cannot put their finger on exactly what eggs are or whether or not they fall under the carnivore-only diet dogma. While many people are focused on the whites of an egg because of its protein content, they are missing out on the nutritional boat the yolk contains.

If eggs were milk, including one in a largely milk-free baked good (again, bread comes to mind) would bother many people all over the world. For one thing, that means baked goods (which typically include eggs) are perfectly okay to eat in a meat-free diet. Vegetarianism, as a diet, does not include eating any animal meat, and because eggs are technically vegetarian, they contain no animal meat whatsoever. Pesco Vegetarian Primarily plant-based foods, but also eats fish and other seafood (may or may not eat eggs and dairy products), but avoids all other meats.

The best answer for which food group eggs fall into is protein foods, since eggs are an excellent source of protein and fat. According to the US Department of Agriculture, eggs are distinguished from poultry, fish, beans, and (wait for it) meats within the protein group – and by that, we all mean hams and other flesh from mammals. Because of their protein content, eggs were previously classified as meat by the U.S. Department of Agriculture within the Food Guide Pyramid (now called MyPlate). Animal proteins, like meat, eggs, and milk, are complete proteins, meaning that animal proteins provide all the essential amino acids that our bodies need.

For example, chicken eggs, which are particularly high in Omega-3 fatty acids, are produced by feeding hens diets that include polyunsaturated fats from sources like fish oil, chia seeds, or flaxseed. Although you will often find eggs near milk at the grocery store, eggs are not considered to be milk products. For lacto-ovo vegans and semi- or partial-vegetarians, eggs are simply a regular part of the diet, and they are a good source of protein, says registered dietitian Jessica Kording of New York. When it comes to nutrition, Upton says, generally, you can consider eggs equivalent to about an ounce of poultry.
